The Science of Sound

The San Antonio Symphony is proud to announce the dates and titles for the 2010-2011 award winning YPC programs to be held at Trinity University's Laurie Auditorium. All programs are 50 minutes in length. Concerts start at 9:45 am and 11:10 am.

Anatomy of the Orchestra

Discover the inner-workings of the orchestra through scientific discussions! Students will explore how the systems of the human body relate to the families of the orchestra. Join Maestro Ken-David Masur for the opening of our 2010-2011 YPC season with the music of Smetana, Wagner, Mendelssohn and more!

Weather Ahead

Composers have always been inspired by weather. From Johann Strauss Jr.’s Thunder and Lightning Polka to Harold Arlen’s Over the Rainbow, the orchestra has been asked for centuries to create the sounds of weather. Don’t miss this special performance with some surprise effects created by the musicians AND the audience!

Earth & Sky

Join the San Antonio Symphony on a musical journey across the earth and through the sky. Hear how composers like Sibelius and Rimsky-Korsakov can transport us to different countries, across oceans and through the universe just by listening to music.

Tchaikovsky: The Art of Sound
Paint to Music



Explore the incredible talents of Tchaikovsky in this program featuring the winning artwork from the 2010-2011 Paint to Music competition. Learn how this magical composer uses different techniques to create a variety of sounds through his repertoire. The symphony will explore the physics of sound in this exciting program!
