History of the Contest:
The Paint to Music contest was created in 1973 as an enhancement to the San Antonio Symphony’s educational program now called the Young People’s Concert Series and is organized by the Symphony League.
• The Symphony League invites students Pre-K through grade 6 attending any of the concerts to create a work of art in the classroom setting while listening to thematic selections of music chosen by the Symphony to coordinate with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Requirements.
• This year’s theme focuses on READING. The purpose of the contest is to encourage children to explore the language of music and the role that classical music can play in enhancing creative expression through art.
• Selections from the winning entries will be projected above the orchestra at the Young People’s Concerts on May 1 & 16, 2012, and at the Family Concert on May 20, 2012
• The DROP-OFF DAY for artwork will be March 3, 2012, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Steinway Piano Gallery. No late entries will be accepted. Please, no exceptions.
• After judging has taken place, winners’ medals, prizes and artwork can be picked up on PICK-UP DAY, Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Steinway Piano Gallery.
