Future Starts Competition

Congratulations to the 2012 Future Stars Grand Prize Winners, Yousun Hah (clarinet) and Collin Turner (violin)!
As part of the grand prize award, Yousun and Collin will perform with the San Antonio Symphony at the Family Series concert on May 20. Congratulations as well to Jeevan Subramaniam, Piano Division winner.

Announcing the 2011-2012 Future Stars Competition!

The San Antonio Symphony is pleased to announce the 2011-2012 “Future Stars” Concerto Competition. The competition is open to any Central Texas student who will not graduate from high school before April 2012, and who lives within a 100 mile radius of City Hall in San Antonio.

Students will compete in one of three divisions: Strings, Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion/Harp, and Piano

Competitors will perform only ONE MOVEMENT of a concerto or concert piece for solo instrument and orchestra. All concertos performed must either be on the approved concerto list supplied with the application materials or PREAPPROVED IN WRITING by the Director of Education and Community Engagement of the San Antonio Symphony, Jeremy Brimhall, at brimhallj@sasymphony.org.

There will be two rounds of competition.
Preliminary Round: Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012
Final Round: Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012

Judges will include representatives from the San Antonio Symphony as well as members of the local music community.

The first place winner in each category will receive a cash prize of $250. In addition, the will be a Grand Prize Winner named from among the three first place winners. The Grand Prize Winner will receive an additional cash award of $750 ($1000 total) and the opportunity to perform with the San Antonio Symphony on an Family Concert on May 20, 2012. Other First Prize Winners may be asked to perform as well.

Applications deadline is Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 at 5:00 pm.
