Lalo Symphonie espagnole
Ives Symphony No. 2
Rising violin superstar Karen Gomyo returns to San Antonio to perform Lalo’s Symphony espagnole. Based on Spanish folk songs, Lalo’s virtuosic violin concerto is filled with the rhythms, melodies and colors of Spain. First performed nearly fifty years after it was composed, Ives Symphony No. 2 is one of the most influential American symphonies of the 20th century. This thrilling work features quotes from a variety of American folk tunes, including “America the Beautiful,” “Camptown Races” and “Long, Long Ago.”
