Katharine Caliendo has been 4th Horn of the San Antonio Symphony since 2011. She earned her Masters and Bachelors degrees from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she studied under William VerMeulen. She has performed with the Richmond Symphony, Dayton Philharmonic, and Pasadena Philharmonic. Over the summer she was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts and has also completed summer studies at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada and the International Festival-Institute at Round Top. A native of New Jersey, Katharine attended the Manhattan School of Music for two years, studying with Michelle Baker. While in New York she performed with ensembles such as DiCapo Aria, Ensemble 212, the Columbia University Orchestra and her woodwind quintet, the SoHa Winds, which was selected to perform a recital at the prestigious Trinity Church in downtown Manhattan.
In addition to the horn, Katharine has another “French” passion: the language, which she reads and speaks as often as possible.
